Our safety commitment

Children's toys in Australia are governed by mandatory safety standards enforced by the ACCC. We take these seriously, and we want you to be able to check our work.

Toys for children up to 36 months

Every toy we sell that is intended for children aged up to and including 36 months is supplied to meet the Australian mandatory safety standard for that age group. In practice, the standard requires that toys are constructed so small parts do not release during play or after reasonable wear and tear, and it is assessed against a small parts cylinder (31mm diameter, 57mm deep) that models a young child's throat.

Compliant products meet the relevant sections of one of the following: AS/NZS ISO 8124.1:2023, ISO 8124-1:2022, EN 71-1:2014+A1:2018, or ASTM F963-17. Electric toys additionally meet AS/NZS 62115:2018.

Button and coin batteries

Australia has four mandatory standards covering button and coin batteries and the products that contain them. Any product we sell containing a button or coin battery is supplied with a secured battery compartment that requires a tool to open, and carries the required warnings and safety information on the product and packaging.

Button batteries are a serious swallowing hazard. If you suspect a child has swallowed one, call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 immediately, or in an emergency call 000. Do not wait for symptoms.

Age labelling

Every product page shows a recommended minimum age. That age is a safety recommendation, not a difficulty rating. A toy marked 3+ is marked that way because it contains small parts — please treat it as a hard floor, not a guideline, and supervise mixed-age play where older siblings' toys are within reach of a toddler.

Choking, magnets and cords

  • Small parts: anything that fits through a toilet-roll tube is a choking risk for under-3s.
  • Magnets: high-powered magnets swallowed in pairs can cause severe internal injury. Our magnetic construction sets are sealed-unit designs and rated 3+.
  • Cords and strings: keep pull-along cords and packaging away from cots and prams.

Recalls and reporting

If we are ever notified of a safety issue with a product you have bought from us, we will contact you directly using your order details and arrange a full refund or replacement. You can also check current Australian recalls at productsafety.gov.au.
